Rea

FEMALE| Arrived March 2023

  • Rea was rescued in January 2023 by Alan Parker (Avian Rescue Otago). She was found at the Cromwell Waterfront as a juvenile unable to fly. Alan said it was likely she had just fledged from the Bannockburn area.

An x-ray revealed a fracture on her radius, with her left wing visibly drooping due to the injury.

Rea arrived to the Kārearea Falcon Trust on the 4th March 2023 and the manager at the time, Diana Dobson, paired her with Flash as Rea’s wing was showing no signs of improvement and her flight ability was limited.

Rea’s left wing still shows a droop but some improvement has been made. In 2025 she was moved to the largest aviary at the Trust in a bid to see if her wing was able to further strengthen enough for release back down in Cromwell.
